East Highland Baptist Church recognizes the importance of missions and demonstrates this with a very active mission program. These mission efforts go from activities in the city of Hartselle, Morgan County, State of Alabama, other states within the Continental United States, Caribbean, South America, Asia, and to the Far East. These mission trips consist of EHBC youth, college and career, as well as our adult membership. Everyone is invited and encouraged to participate when and wherever they feel led to join.
The following pages highlight recently completed mission trips with pictures and a summary of the trip activities and accomplishments. Mission trips occurring further back in time are in the Archives.

Lakeshore Mission Trip - October 2010
October 24, 2010, found a group of five of our members heading to Lakeshore, Mississippi, for a week of ministry to meet the needs of people still recovering from Hurricane Katrina. The group consisted of: Larry Foreman, Charles Stone, Patrick Tilley, Dudley White, and Peggy White (pictured below).
During this trip we were able to work on two of the projects we had started in 2008. During the summer of 2008, we were part of a team that helped dig the holes and set the pilings on the Mercy House (below, left). On the same trip we dug holes, set pilings, built the floor system, and framed up a house that would belong to Steve and Laura Peterson (below, right). Further information on the Mission work in this area can be found at the web address: "rebuildlakeshore.com"
During this trip the team's activities consisted of the following:
· Three of our team spent time building shelves in the new Mercy House to hold items for the churches' distribution center.
· The exterior stairwell in the Mercy House was described as unfinished with unsafe handrails. The team was asked to turn the "ugly stairwell" into good looking and make the area safe. Two members of the team worked on this most of the week and had to design and build each piece individually to accomplish the task. When inspected by Pastor Don, he said it looked great and was just what he wanted. Pastor Don is legally blind, but we thought it looked good also!

· One of the team members worked the entire week caulking, painting trim, and fighting fire ants in the Mercy House with outstanding results.
· One of our team installed flood vents in the Mercy House.
· Three of our team was able to work on the Peterson house where they installed interior trim, hung interior doors, and prepared kitchen cabinets for the counter tops.

An added blessing was that during this trip our team was able to reunite with another team from California we had previously met and come to love. We also met and worked with a team from Decatur Baptist and will possibly plan a future trip with the Decatur Baptist team (they brought good cooks, and we were told they always do!).
If you would like to be a part of one of these trips pray about it, talk with one of the mission team, and sign up when trip is posted.
